Andrus, 27, died Wednesday in the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. An architect with a Memphis firm for three years, he was a Mayfield native and a graduate of the University of Tennessee. Preceded in death by his mother, Mary Evelyn Andrus, he is survived by his father, James Raymond Andrus and step-mother, Mrs. Andrus, Fulton; one sister, Mrs. Arnie Naiditch, Atlanta, one step-sister, Mary Ann Cate, Fulton; one step-brother, Dr.

Ronald C. Cate, Memphis; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Andrus, Mayfield; one niece, Miss Kelly Ray Archibald, Atlanta, Ga.

Benton man's body is recovered BENTON, Ky. The body of Gene Hall York, an apparent victim of the flooding in association with the heavy rains over the weekend, was recovered this morning. According to Sheriff Joe Tom Haltom, York was last seen at 4 p.m. on Sunday. His body was recovered this morning after a search was begun by members of the Marshall County Rescue Squad.

Haltom said York's car was found Thursday afternoon on the Dogtown Road. Haltom said the car had apparently been under six to eight feet of water. Haltom surmised that York had apparently driven into the floodwaters of Clark's River Sunday night. He apparently tried to walk out and the swift current of the river pulled him under, said Haltom. York's coat was found downstream from the car and the body was found a half mile from where the car was found.

York's body was found lying on the bank. An employee of Lampkins Buick York, 40, was a Benton resident. The body was taken to Filbeck and Cann Funeral Home. Washer, 32, H. B. Gorham, accident victim Paducah, dies MURRAY, Mrs. Laretta Ann Washer, 32, Clare, formerly of Calloway County, died Wednesday in an automobile accident in Harrison, Mich. A graduate of Calloway County High School, she was a member of Brown's Corner United Brethren Church in Clare.

A trio of Graves Countians seeking nomination in the May 29 Democratic primary spoke to the annual meeting of the Graves County Teachers Association here Thursday night.

Incumbent State Sen. Richard Weisenberger of Mayfield outlined what he feels are advantages of a proposed 9.4 percent property tax increase for Graves County. Weisenberger said if voters approve the property tax hike, their school system will receive $2 in new state funds for every $1 raised by the tax increase. Weisenberger, who has been endorsed by the First District Education Association of the Kentucky Education Associa- The council's approval will be considered next by a regional agency, Health Systems Agency-West, which will meet May 18-19 in Paducah. If the project is approved then, it will be considered by two higherlevel state agencies.

Final approval may come in July. In other action, the council amended a health plan proposal for the number of additional hospital beds needed in the area from 53 to 43. If the regional agency approves the 43-bed figure, it will be sufficient to cover a request by Lourdes Hospital to add 32 beds to its sixth floor, health planner Andy Sears said. The council voted against an application by NHE-Paducah to convert 12 of its skilled nursing care beds to intermediate care (a lower level of health care). Tommy Carlisle of Mayfield and Jerry Mayes of Farmington, who are seeking the Second District State House seat held by Lloyd Clapp of Wingo, endorsed legislation that would provide an annual cost-of-living pay raise for teachers. Carlisle told the group that teachers need negotiation rights, and he pledged to work with teachers for enabling legislation. Mayes, a professor at Murray State University, said he is aware of the problems teachers face because he has spent 11 years in the field.
