What happens during a urogynecology exam? ›

You will be asked to undress from the waist down. The urethra will be cleaned and a numbing jelly will be placed into the urethra and inside your bladder. Your doctor will gently insert a telescope into your bladder and inspect the inside of your bladder and urethra.

If these are not effective in curing or at least alleviating the condition, then surgery to repair or increase support for the pelvic floor is the only alternative. The two most common urogynecologic surgery procedures are laparoscopic and transvagin*l surgery.

Maybe you have incontinence or you've noticed a vagin*l bulge. In these instances, a more specialized physician, a urogynecologist, may be the more appropriate person to see to diagnose and treat the problem. Gynecologist are physicians who specialize in the female reproductive system.
