Can you believe we are almost at the end of April?? I’m like, wut?

But so happy because May is by far the prettiest, nicest month in all the land.

And May kicks off with one of the most fun celebrations ever: cinco de Mayo!

Over the next week or so, I plan on bombing you with ALL the best cinco de Mayo recipes. I do already have a few, like this homemade cajeta and baked churros, these frozen sangria slushies, and this outta this world mango chile flan, but I’ve got lots more in store.

Starting with this amazing margarita recipe. You just can’t celebrate cinco de Mayo without a margarita. Am I right??

And this one is perfection. It’s full of freshly squeezed lime juice, with a perfect balance of citrus and tequila, and it’s so refreshing! Mix up a couple of these, and head out back to enjoy the warm sunshine!

WHAT ARE MARGARITA INGREDIENTS?

One of the best things about margaritas is how simple they are to make. You really only need 3 ingredients:

  1. Fresh limes
  2. Orange Liqueur (aka: Triple Sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier)
  3. Tequila

You can also add salt to that list, if you like a salted rim. And of course, lots of ice!

Fresh lime juice makes the BEST margaritas! Believe me when I tell you, it makes all the difference in the world. Stay away from bottled juice, and stay away from margarita mix. There’s just no need, when a REAL margarita is so easy to make. And it tastes so much better!

WHAT KIND OF TEQUILA TO USE FOR A MARGARITA

You can use any kind of tequila you have on hand, but I like blanco or silver tequila the best. Sometimes these also go by the name “platinum” or “white.” The flavor is clean and smooth, and it really lets the fresh citrus flavor shine.

HOW TO MAKE A MARGARITA

It is so easy to make a classic margarita.

Do you like a salted rim on your margarita? If so, start here.

Take a wedge of lime and run the cut side all around the rim of your glass. My favorite type of glass to use is a rocks glass, but you could also do this with margarita glasses too!

Once the rim of your glass has been wetted with the lime juice, turn it upside-down into a small dish of salt. I just use good old kosher salt, but there are all kinds of specialty margarita salts if you want to get fancy.

Coat the rim of the glass well with the salt, then fill it with lots of ice.

Juice the limes into a measuring cup. You’ll probably need about 1 1/2 limes per drink, but this can vary since some limes can be juicier than others.

Once you’ve got 3 ounces of lime juice in your measuring cup, pour in the orange liqueur until it reaches the 6 ounce mark. Then, top it off with another 6 ounces of tequila.

In total, you should have 12 ounces of liquid, which is the perfect amount for 2 co*cktails.

Pour this over the ice and enjoy!

HOW TO MAKE A FROZEN MARGARITA

My favorite kind of margarita is a margarita on the rocks, but you could also throw everything in the blender and whip up a couple of frozen margaritas!

HOW TO MAKE MARGARITAS FOR A CROWD

This recipe is practically foolproof, and it can be scaled up infinitely.

If you want to make a big pitcher of margaritas, just multiply everything by 5 and you’ll have enough for 10 co*cktails. But don’t put ice in the pitcher- it will water everything down as it melts. Put the ice in each individual glass!
