The Dragons will have to navigate their upcoming fixtures without the services of their newly acquired player, Fetuli Paea, who won't be available for selection until December after undergoing surgical intervention for a fractured arm.
The experienced centre sustained a break to his right forearm in what can only be described as cruel timing—less than sixty minutes into what was his first appearance for the club against the Sharks this past Friday evening.
At 31 years of age, Paea will be sidelined for a minimum of the next four match rounds in the United Rugby Championship. His availability for the opening fixtures of Dragons' European Challenge Cup campaign is also now hanging in the balance and looking increasingly uncertain.

"It's genuinely disappointing because his performance against the Sharks was exceptional. He demonstrated powerful carrying ability and rock-solid defensive work, and he's integrated into the squad seamlessly," explained defence coach Dale MacLeod, clearly frustrated by the timing of the injury.
This setback represents a significant blow for the Dragons organization, particularly considering how the powerful ball-carrying midfielder made such an instant and impressive impact during his maiden outing at Rodney Parade. Paea was instrumental in creating two tries during the first half, showcasing exactly why the club brought him in.
Looking ahead, the Dragons are expected to implement substantial changes to their lineup for the upcoming clash against Glasgow at Scotstoun. This strategic rotation makes sense given that the Glasgow fixture arrives just six days before their highly anticipated first regional derby showdown against Cardiff—a scheduling challenge that demands careful squad management.
The injury concerns don't stop with Paea, either. The team continues to operate without Wales international hooker Elliot Dee, who remains unavailable due to a shoulder problem. Additionally, the coaching staff has confirmed they won't be rushing flanker Thomas Young back into action. Young, who made the switch from Cardiff during the off-season, has yet to make his Dragons debut after suffering a hamstring injury during pre-season training.

"Thomas showed encouraging signs during his running sessions this week, and Elliot is targeting a return to training activities within the next couple of weeks," MacLeod revealed, offering a glimmer of hope for supporters.
"These players are absolutely crucial to have around the environment, and even while they're recovering, they continue to contribute significant value to the squad," he added, emphasizing the importance of experienced players in the team culture.
