How to Make Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake in a Slow Cooker

When I saw an oven version of this recipe in the new101 Blue Ribbon Dessert Recipesby Gooseberry Patch (Thanks for sending me a copy GP!) it immediately reminded me of our Dad. Dad always makes all kinds of dump cakes over the campfire when we visit them at the horse camps over the summer.

Both Aunt Lou and I have made several versions of dump or spoon cakes in the slow cooker over the years, so when this recipe caught my eye, so I knew I wanted to convert this into a slow cooker recipe to share with you as soon as possible 😉

Ingredients forCrock Pot Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake Recipe

20 oz Can of Crushed Pineapple- Well Drained
2 21 oz Cans of Cherry Pie Filling
1 Box of White Cake Mix- Dry
1/2 Cup of Butter- Sliced Thinly
1/2 Cup Chopped Pecans

This recipe was perfect for my upcoming get-together with some of my girlfriends. It fit perfectly into one of the 2.5 qt crocks in my 3-Pot Buffet Slow Cooker. I whipped this up in five minutes and then let it cook on high for 3-4 hours and it came out perfect!
I also put two other recipes from 101 Blue Ribbon Dessert Recipesin the other crocks (recipes coming soon. Miss Add declared this one her favorite of the three, so you know you are in for a treat! I recommend using a 2.5-3 qt slow cooker for this dish. You could “bake” this up in a larger slow cooker, it will just cook MUCH faster, so make sure you watch it closely.

Ingredients

20 oz Can of Crushed Pineapple well drained
42 oz Cherry Pie Filling (2-21 oz cans)
1 Box of White Cake Mix dry
1/2 Cup Butter sliced thinly
1/2 Cup Chopped Pecans

Instructions

Layer the pineapple then cherries then cake mix (dry not prepared) in your slow cooker.
Top with butter and then pecans.
Cover with the lid and cook on high for 3-4 hours or until cake is set

Could the pineapple be left out and another can of the
same fruit used, 3. I was thinking of just the cherry or making
one with just apples. I do like the original one however.

  I wish I could help! I just love those little crocks. I got them from Christmas Tree Shops a couple years ago and I could only get one set 🙁 I haven’t been able to find them since. Hope you have better luck than I do.

  Sounds like you might HAVE to ;). Seriously though, if you need to make less for some reason, just watch your cooking time… It could take as little as and hour or two. Enjoy!

Do you mix up the cake as per directions on the box or do you put it in the crockpot without mixing first? Wasn’t clear about that………

I have never made a Crockpot Dump Cake. With this being said, does the finished product come out similar to a regular cake or a cobbler?

  Hi Carol! They come out kind of like a cross between a crisp and a cake. The fruit stays mostly on the bottom and there is a cakey topping. Enjoy!

  Yes. Just place the mix on top and then the butter (and nuts). The butter will melt into the mix and make a very yummy dump cake. Enjoy!
