From time to time we like to enjoy these cheese scones and this is the perfect family bake.

I love to bake for my family but sometimes I am short on time, or motivation. Being able to whip up something that takes just a couple of minutes, and tastes lovely, is always good.

It is quick, simple and frugal. Ideal for little ones to join too as long as they don’t overwork the dough! I’m sharing my cheese scones recipe with you today. Scroll near the end of this recipe for a printable cheese scones recipe card!

Ingredients for my cheese scones recipe:

225g self-raising flour

55g butter

A pinch of salt

30g grated cheese (mature cheddar is my favourite!)

150ml semi-skimmed milk

Method for my cheese scones recipe:

Start by lighting the oven to gas mark 7.

Rub the flour and butter together. Add a pinch of salt.

Add the grated cheese.

Mix in the milk.

You should end up with quite a soft dough. If it is too wet then add a little sprinkling of flour.

I like to knead this really quickly. I just pat it together into a big round basically using my hands. Make the dougharound 1/2 inch thick as these will rise up in the oven.

I use a reusable baking tray liner, to cut down on waste. Also, I don’t need any butter or oil etc. I use a flat baking tray with the baking tray liner on top of it.

I use a pastry cutter to make the rounds. Thismakes it really simple to make scones that are all one size and cook evenly.

I mix together the leftover dough and make a few more. Usually, I get 9-10 scones from this cheese scones recipe.

Before placing into the oven I brush the tops of these scones with a little milk. It only takes a few seconds and helps them go golden and delicious in the oven.

Personally, I bake these for around 12-13 minutes before placing on a cooling rack to cool down properly.

These are super simple taking just a few minutes to make and then a short time to bake. The cost of ingredients is super reasonable making these some very cheap scones.

Also, I know when reading this cheese scones recipe you might think 30g of cheese isn’t much but it really is. Especially if you use grated mature cheddar.
